We all know that it’s what is on the inside that counts, but there’s nothing wrong with dressing up the outside too! I love to bake. Honestly, the smell of vanilla and brown sugar are very therapeutic for me! However, if I consumed everything I baked, I wouldn’t have room for the healthy variety of foods that my body needs to function well, and I would be too large to leave my house! When I bake, I like to share to be nice and to keep my portion size of the goodies reasonable.
I recently made two of my absolute favorite cookies (see the printable recipes below), and I wanted to share the wealth to keep myself from eating cookies for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! I knew the cookies would be delicious, but I also wanted to package them up nicely to give to a few friends.
A trip to Hobby Lobby proved successful. I purchased adorable printed cupcake boxes (gold polka-dot and black and white striped) that were the perfect size to hold a dozen cookies (I make small cookies for portion control). Paper doilies would be perfect to put on the bottom of the box, and I also found some cute stickers that said “Handmade Just for You.”
The boxes were easy to fold, and I put a doily inside and 6 of each cookie in each box and placed a sticker on top. Adorable, but I felt like they needed a little something else. Growing up in the South, I learned that a big bow makes everything cuter, so I grabbed some black tulle for the gold polka-dot boxes and some gold tulle for the black and white striped boxes. Perfect!
Delivering them to friends and knowing they got to enjoy a sweet treat made my day! I also think that the extra and very inexpensive step of boxing them up nicely made the gift seem even more thoughtful and special; just like my friends!
Life Lesson Alert: (I can feel my kids rolling their eyes!) A little thoughtfulness goes a long way!

Put a smile on someone’s face with these cookie recipes! While visiting my grandmother several years ago, my aunt and cousin came and brought these simple, yet delicious snickerdoodles. They are slightly crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. Of course, I asked for the recipe.

Directions
- Heat oven to 325° for convection oven or 350° for regular oven.
- In a large bowl, mix sugar, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt on medium speed.
- Add butter, eggs, and vanilla. Beat on medium-high speed until fluffy and light-colored (around 3-4 minutes).

This recipe came from a book series called “Pee Wee Scouts” I used to read with my oldest son when he was in first and second grade. They are an absolute favorite for the family due to their surprising ingredient, corn flakes! From time to time, I add some butterscotch chips (about 1/2 cup) to mix up the flavor.
