I envy those people who go all out decorating for every holiday. Perfectly curated tablescapes, festive mantles, and seasonal throw pillows create a home welcoming to all who enter. As much as I would love to create a themed motif for every season, I simply don’t have the time, money, or storage space for all of those extra knick-knacks! However, I have found a decorating tool that allows me to express my joy for each holiday without leaving me exhausted, broke, or in need of another storage tote. My new favorite decorating friend is the Tiered Tray!
One of my best friends has had a tiered tray in her kitchen for a while (she’s a bit of a trendsetter), and she decorates it for different seasons or holidays. I’ve always loved it, but it wasn’t until I saw another friend post her newly accessorized tray on Facebook that I wondered if this was a design trend that had left me in the dark! A quick look at Pinterest wowed me! Check out our Decor Board on Pinterest for some beautiful examples.
I just had to design a tiered tray of my own! Finding a piece that fit my kitchen was pretty easy. Since Valentine’s Day was approaching, my hunt began with looking for some cute accessories to showcase the love I have for my family. Being practical, I also knew I needed to get a few items to keep on the tiered tray all year long. After searching some of my favorite stores, Home Goods, Hobby Lobby, and Pier One, I had everything I needed to get started. I also picked up a few things for Spring and Easter.
My favorite find was a heart-shaped cement planter with adorable pink succulents in it (Home Goods). The pink bowls (Home Goods) filled with Valentine’s Day hearts and Hershey Kisses were a hit with my daughter’s basketball team when they came over for a team dinner. The petite pink roses (Hobby Lobby) came from a big stem. I simply cut them with wire cutters to fit into the mini galvanized steel pitcher and jug (Hobby Lobby) for a pop of Valentine’s Day color. A simple succulent pick (Hobby Lobby) drapes down from another galvanized vase adding texture and drama. The twine red and pink hearts (Pier One) were a great filler, and I love how the gold letters “xoxo” stand out (Pier One). The chalkboard signs (Hobby Lobby) are motivating and adorable. The cream color of the wooden chicken (Hobby Lobby) and the heart-shaped white rose wreaths (Hobby Lobby) coordinate with the off-white on the tray and add a touch of whimsy.
Placing items on the trays involved some rearranging, but overall it was a very quick project with a big effect. The galvanized containers and chicken will probably be more permanent fixtures on the tray, and I can easily change things as needed. I feel better that I have put forth some effort for holiday decorating, and changing things out for St. Patrick’s Day, Spring, Easter, etc. should be simple. All of the off-season items can be easily stored away in a crate or bin. I love the beautiful Spring and Easter Items I found at Pier One! I’m always planning ahead.
