‘Tis the Season for Ginger Tea
‘Tis the season for stressful situations…Shopping, wrapping, decorating, cooking for crowds, navigating family dynamics, and harboring that pesky elf on the shelf can leave us exhausted to our cores and running on fumes. We have to remember to take some time to care for ourselves so that we can relax and enjoy this beautiful season. Taking mental moments allows us to be more productive and able to take care of others (Read 8 Ways to Take Care of You.) When our stress levels get high and we get run down, we create a perfect storm for illness to take hold. Give your immune system and mood a boost with this delicious and healthful homemade ginger tea.
Ginger is a superfood which contains Gingerol, and it has been used for centuries to help with health issues such as nausea, inflammation, infections, digestion and fighting the common cold or even the flu. Studies have shown that ginger can reduce blood sugar, lower cholesterol, reduce menstrual pain, and even protect the brain against Alzheimer’s Disease. Now, one glass of this homemade Ginger Tea will not make all that happen for you today, but incorporating more ginger into your diet may help get you on that track.
This homemade Ginger tea is really simple to make, Honestly, the hardest part is peeling the ginger. When my kids are feeling a little off they will ask for this homemade Ginger Tea and all is right with the world. Sitting with a hot mug of tea makes everyone feel a little better, at least in my house. It can be served hot or cold.

Ginger Tea
Healthful, homemade tea.
Ingredients
- 1 Gallon Water (I use distilled)
- Ginger Root 1 large piece
- 4 Whole Cloves
- 2 Cinnamon Sticks
- 1/4 Cup Local Honey
- 2 Lemons
- 1 Large Orange
Directions
- In a large pot, put in the full gallon of water and turn on medium heat.
- Carefully peel the Ginger and slice in pieces, bring water to a boil.
- Boil for 10 minutes.
- Add Cloves and Cinnamon Sticks to water.
- Boil for 5 additional minutes.
- Turn heat down to low.
- Wash thoroughly and Cut Orange and Lemons into quarters, place in pot.
- Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Turn heat off and let Tea set to cool.
- Add Honey.
- Serve Hot or Refrigerate and enjoy later.
Suggestion: Add additional Honey and Lemon to each cup if desired.
