What to do with all of those School Supplies?
I attribute back to school time with an overwhelming enthusiasm for organization. I’ve been out of school for AGES, and I honestly miss getting the Crayola 64 pack of crayons with the built-in sharpener. Why hasn’t the Trapper Keeper made a comeback? What an organizational specimen, especially when it was covered in scratch-n-sniff stickers! My children are a little old for crayons, but I still love shopping in the back-to-school section at Target every summer!
Driven to be prepared, I keep a lot of school supplies on hand. I hate the 9:00 pm requests for poster board, glue sticks, or some highly specific color of pen, so I stock a school supply closet. Here are my tips to corral the chaos!
- Small sets of drawers are the perfect spot for pens, pencils, highlighters, colored pencils, glue sticks, erasers, etc.
- Medium drawers keep loose-leaf paper, composition notebooks, tape dispensers, flash drives, index cards, and post-its accessible.
- Large drawers can be used for many things. I like to keep craft supplies in them. You never know if a project may pop up that requires yarn, popsicle sticks, a glue gun
- Magazine holders work great to hold construction paper, spiral notebooks, file folders, tab dividers, and pencil bags.
- Shelf space is used for extra binders, calculators, and whatever else we have.
All in all, I think it’s very easy to get the supplies they need without me having to make a late-night Target run (but maybe that might be fun…)! The kids like to “shop” the closet. Please share your ideas to store school supplies.
