DIY Adorable Baby Gift Basket

What do you give the most precious mom-to-be for her baby shower? An adorable assortment of baby items packaged perfectly in a reusable basket!

Our friends are having their first child, and I have to admit, it has been a looong time since I’ve been invited to a baby shower. (My youngest is turning 13, and my oldest just finished his first year of college!) There are so many new and fun baby gadgets and ways to celebrate the arrival of a precious baby: gender reveal parties, diaper parties for men, babymoon trips, etc.

I really wanted to create an adorable and purposeful way to present the gifts I purchased for baby Julia, so while I was shopping, I first looked for a basket to hold the items. I found a soft, oval, pink rope basket that was delicate and sturdy at the same time. My eyes spotted the most soft and cuddly stuffed elephant with a rattle, and I had to get it! As a mom of 3, I knew I had to purchase some practical items, so I also got receiving blankets, non-tipping bowls, and some board books.

I did remember to get a gift receipt when I purchased the items, and I blacked out the prices on the tags. The fun part was putting everything into the pink basket. Sooooo cute!

The problem came when I went to get a gift bag from my craft closet…I didn’t have one that could accommodate such a wide gift (a shock since I have countless gift bags on hand at all times), nor did I have cellophane to wrap around it! I didn’t have time to go back out to the store. I debated so many things from attaching a ribbon handle to the basket so it could be carried, putting the smaller items in a gift bag inside the basket, to trying to zip tie everything to the basket itself.

Frustrated and pacing around trying to come up with a better idea, I spotted a fabric storage box in a pile of things my daughter had set out to donate. I did a double take and knew it would be the perfect way to store and transport the adorable gift!

I simply put the basket full of gifts into the box, closed the lid, and secured it by creating a pink tulle bow. As a bonus, baby Julia would now have a basket and a box to use for storage, in addition to the gifts!

Mommy and Daddy loved the gifts and were excited about the storage box! I am so happy I got to combine some of my favorite activities (shopping, DIY, and repurposing) into a thoughtful, practical, and beautiful gift! Maybe I’ll even be elevated to Auntie status when she is born!
